OKAY PEEPS! So it seems mr chong tzelin will be leaving malaysia on the 11th of august. So he wants a gathering before he leaves. he said preferably this week! SO! ANYONE IS FREE? You know you're a medical student when...
- You take forever explaining to people how long you'll be in school for, and realise you’ll get a medical doctor title the same time your friend gets a PhD doctor title.

- You contemplate anything between dropping out and suicide after you finish each exam, even before knowing the results.

- You get depressed and emotional just thinking about how bad a doctor you’ll become in a few years.

- You answer every question with, “Hmm (pretending to think for a second), I don’t know.” And you know the most correct answer is, “It depends, sir.”

- You diagnose every single abnormality on yourself/family/friends as a life-threatening condition. You think the tiny haematoma on your finger is a risk for PE (Pulmonary Embolism). (In due time XD)

- You watch House and ER, and think you can score in the exams and get through medical school. Wrong, only Dr.Wikipedia helps.

- You instantly feel that you want to bang your head against the wall whenever someone says “You’re a medical student? You must be very smart then!”, because it’s an unbearable accusation. (SO TRUE)

- You work out so that you get a six pack, so that you will make a good simulated patient for the seniors. (Interesting..)

- Your friend/cousin zooms in front of you with his brand new car and treats you to lunch with his own paycheck and on top of that, talks about property and houses to buy. And you’re still struggling to buy second hand reference books. (T.T)

- You have exams in a few days and when you try doing practice questions, you don’t know what to do with your pen besides underlining the key words in the question.

- Conversations with people involve “So tell me what happened.”, “So how does that make you feel?”, and “I understand it must be very difficult for you.” (That's BS for you ;D)

- You have a peak moment in life when a senior says “good” or “well done”; it’s so relieving to know you’re not a complete drain on society. (:D)

- You’re content knowing that you actually do lead a normal and sane life. Even if it’s just a few hours in a day, while you’re asleep. (Hahaha..)

- You’re completely socially retarded when you hang out with non-medics as you don't know what to talk about besides your miserable life as a medical student. (Oh no...)

- A patient/doctor asks if you've done a procedure before (e.g. cannulation, suturing) and you say "Yes", without revealing the fact that the previous patients were plastic models. (Soon.. soon... *grins*)

- You don’t understand why summer vacation is only one month, although summer itself is three months. (Yeah loh)

- You wash your hands after meals and the loo using the 6-step technique. (Not.. YET)

- You’re secretly happy that the really smart guy stopped medical school and start complotting who next to eliminate. Just so the normal distribution skews to the left so you won’t fail. (*evil smirk*)

- Your roommate, housemate, neighbour, boyfriend, girlfriend, any close friends and practically everybody are not spared from being your simulated patient.

- You can’t wait for weekends, so that you can catch up on your readings.

- You have a list of pathologies that you don't mind dying from. Definitely not cancer though. (AGREED)

- You count the days till your next more-than-two-days-weekend-break, which is at least 4 months away. (Normally... YES...)

- "SOB" means short of breath to you. (Might be a sign of CHD...*thinks*)

- You know the size of a RBC. (7 microns in diameter LOL)

- Your eyesight has worsened by 10 pts or more in the last year. (I think got leh...)

- It doesn't matter how much you study, there is always so much more material to learn.

- You are more familiar with last names such as Netter, Moore, Grant, Guyton, Robbins, etc than the last names of your classmates. (Hmmm...)

- You wonder when you'll have time to get married and start a family. (No joke..)

- You check the nutritional chart in the boxes of everything you eat. (!!!)

- Right before exams, you have a hard time remembering why you want to be a doctor. (You mean like.. right NOW?)

- You don't have "backpain"; you have a somatic dysfunction on .... (XD)

- When you wonder why people are giving you weird looks as your friend explains the latest perverted mnemonic to you as you sit in a cafe.

- ER begins to make sense.

- Getting a B is actually pretty darn good.

- You often mumble to yourself, “F***! Am I supposed to know that?” as soon as you see or hear about some disease/symptom/sign that you completely have no clue about. Then you blame it on the medical school for not teaching you that.

Hello everyone! the blog is so dead as everyone is busy preparing for exams. in fact, the last post was in february :O so to make this blog not look so dead let me post an update full of random shit!

first things first! Danny choo! I don't know if you guys heard about danny choo but he is the son of jimmy choo, the shoe designer. but he isn't really interested in making shoes and took a totally different career path. the story to his success is kinda amazing cause he was a very motivated person. currently he is based in japan so do read his blog at dannychoo.com. lotsa stuff on japanese culture, manga and anime. if you are interested. :) I had the pleasure of meeting him since he came to london to give a talk at his uni SOAS.

Secondly, the fit finder. haha this is a site where you post up hot people you see in your uni. sadly it is only for the uk unis but do check out some of the comments and stuff they put up cause some people say kinda mean things. something to destress during this painfully annoying stage we have to go through every year. check out the fit finder here.

Reality Check

After about 18 months living overseas/away from home I am sure everyone has gotten comfortable with their place and living conditions. Well I just got a reminder that we are still in a foreign place and we should still be vigilant. To those wondering what this reminder is, I shall enlighten you now. My house which I share with 3 others was broken into last wednesday. It happened in between 11a.m. and 1p.m.. Thats right, it happened in a 2 hour time-span. Fortunately nobody was at home and unfortunately we lost 3 laptops and a DSLR. The funny thing is cash was not taken and so was many other stuff. Well standard procedure followed, called the police(gardai in Ireland). Gardai came and saw promptly but nothing seems to be able to done since laptop thefts are common. So all in all, this is a reminder to all Pm3ians you are students and are targets. So don't be predictable, ie. don't park your bike where people can see whether your home or not. This is to keep people guessing whether your home or not.

My Germany Trip

Yo... I am dam happening ok... I went to Germany and then Dublin!! Take that... I dun study all the time.. hahhaha. AND DON'T DISS MY NEW HAIR STYLE JAC.... IT'S COOL.

If anyone wants to go Germany, I recommend the Wombats hostel.

Anyway these are the highlights:

Christmas Market in Germany is dam awesome. I bought one of this (mini version) as a souvenir.

Neuschwanstein Castle build by a king who loves swan. The Disney Castle is a replica of this castle. If you are wondering who are they, (William, Tian Huey, Wen Jun, Howie, Me, Michelle). And i look dam gangsta with that beanie right?

It was snowing and the castle was so pretty. Supposed to be able to see the whole castle from this bridge, but it was too foggy cos of the snow.

It was really fun in Germany. You guys in the UK should try to make a trip there. We had sausages and pork knuckles and german beer too! The food there are quite salty, and I am not a fan of alcohol, so I can't really comment on the beer. But the sausages from the Christmas markets are AWESOME.

Term is starting soon, and i m gonna have a mock exam. Sigh.

Okay. I went to London this christmas. So some of the pm3 ians managed to meet up. There was actually another meet up but I forgot to take photos of that one. In that gathering, Xiaowei was there but not Ken and Vinfei. Vinfei was in Poland i think,so it was understandable. but KEN! Ken decided not to go because he wanted to go shopping.(eventhough he hasn't seen xiaowei yet) That noob. So me and Ys have decided that Ken is no longer invited to any pm3 gathering :D Anyone supports this decision? Feel free to express your opinions in the chatbox. :)

Our lecturer showed this during one of the lectures. Follow this step by step.

1. See what this person is saying.

2. Close your eyes and play it again, and listen to what he is saying.

Firstly you hear the person saying DaDa, then when you listen to it with your eyes closed, you hear BaBa. Cool right.

It just illustrates that our brain integrate information from vision as well as hearing when we interpret what a person is saying.

Here's an update from IMU, since we are usually so busy we have no time to update our class blog.

Yuen Herng and Mark are cheerleaders... LOL... Wen Peng is a loser cause he didn't join...

IMU recently had its IMU Cup which is like a 2 month sports events which they have loads of sports and yada yada.... We were divided into 6 houses named after mythical creatures (Harry Potter-ish)

Greetings and salutations my fellow PM3ians! Sorry for this super late post and the lack of updates as I have too much work during term time! At least now the samurai will stop pestering me to update the blog.

After an arduous and tiring 8 and a half months, first year in uni is finally over. Honestly, despite the workload and coursework etc. first year was actually pretty fun.

This is the entrance to Queen's Tower
Access is restricted and the tower is open at certain times of the year only cause they said the structure is not stable anymore. But I heard people say that they closed it cause too many people commit suicide by jumping of the tower.

Queen's Tower, located right in the heart of South Kensington Campus.

This is the main adminstration building. According to a certain source, they said it looks like a Rubik's Cube.

Statue of the Queen. The only statue like thing in the whole campus.

The Exhibition Road Entrance to Imperial College.

Mata London. I got a free ride up there as it was part of my coursework to study the structure, supports etc.

The River Thames. The boat cruise is quite nice actually.

Chinese New Year Eve party organised by the first year Malaysian. No chinese new year celebration at home for us for the next 3 years. Damn sad.

It is kinda cool cause it snowed the heaviest for the first time in 18 years in London.

PM3 is coming to IMU on Thursday (23rd July). Reminder: IMU is strict with dresscode.

So to avoid trouble, guys, come with your

button-down collared shirts (short or long sleeves),
slacks (no jeans please)
formal shoes (preferably)
tie (if you like, they're not too fussy about this)

Dresscode for girls:

it's a little more relaxed for the girls. It's not necessary to dress formal. You can wear T-shirt and slacks. Just as long as you don't wear jeans, you're safe.

If by any chance the guards stop you (for dresscode or for not having your student ID), you can act as though you didn't notice them and walk in straight, or if you fail to do that, just write a random name (eg Draco Malfoy or Emma Watson or Alex Wong) and a random student ID which looks like NU0807*****. Fill the asterisks with 5 random numbers (eg NU080712093) That student ID is meant for nursing students btw. Haha.

Think that's about it. Thursday, our lecture's 1.30-3.45pm. Come anytime you want, let us know. We can have dinner after that or something, if you like. See you there!

Hey guys. A bunch of us met up in Taylors to visit the teachers. Unfortunately, we forgot that the teachers were having holidays now. Most of them went home early. We only got to meet Mr Chan Wai Tuck. We talked with him for abit. He asked how everyone was doing and where everyone was. Oh and before that, we had lunch in Asia Cafe. ( f.y.i spicy noodles no longer available in Asia cafe. lol. sorry guys.) After that we went to pyramid and watch Angels and Demons.

Xiao wei baked a cake for meeee because it was my birthday(the next day, which is today) so sweet! Thanx Xiao wei! you're the best! =D

Hi everyone. Im staying up late tonight to start and finish my portfolio. Yeah basically Manchester med school requires me to write down my feelings and experiences and compile it. Damn freakin waste of time man if u ask me. Since this blog is dead i shall update it to let u guys see what my reflection is like haha! YEs this is basically what i wrote in my portfolio...

My PBL Experience

One thing I have come to realise is that working in a PBL group is very much different from the conventional study methods I have been exposed to all my life. Of course, I had been in group studies and group discussions before, but I never really believed in it, until I started seeing its benefits in my time here. When I first started the course way back in last September, I found it rather difficult to be an active participator during PBL sessions. Sure, I would try to contribute in bits and pieces, but I was never really able to contribute as much as I would have liked to. However, as the weeks progressed, I was thankfully able to find my feet, and became more confident to speak out or to voice my opinion when I found it necessary to. I can safely say that PBL has completely turned my view around on studying, as I used to be spoon-fed information back in high school and college, but now I see that without realising it, I am slowly becoming more proactive in looking up information by myself and more independent in that sense as well. The fact that there are basically no limits to the extent of information I can find regarding a topic really helps me train my critical thinking skills, like whether or not a particular piece of information is relevant to a case or not, a skill that would no doubt be extremely useful as a doctor in the future. I am now making my own notes in my own style, and after many times of trying different ways of making notes, I have finally found my own way. Basically I would divide the case into 3 main areas, which are physiology, pathology, and pharmacology. After making notes on these individual areas, I then make notes on the cues found in the case. I also found out that I learn better through pictures, this applying mainly to anatomy. I really struggled in the first semester to find a good anatomy reference book. However, in the 2nd semester I discovered that I understood Gray’s Anatomy for Students much better than all the rest of the books I had used before, due to the many illustrations and pictures found in the book. In a way, the PBL structure enables me to have my own way of studying, and gather knowledge in the best way to myself alone. It also helps me to create a more holistic approach to studying, as I am integrating basic medical knowledge with clinical aspects of medicine in my studies nowadays. My views on PBL learning have drastically changed over the year, and I find that the values it instils in me not only will help me through my course and my career, but also in life as well.

Its again the most exciting time of the year ----- the exam term.

People here in uk enjoy studying in the garden, under the sun, and probably get skin cancer in the process.

Medics is not an easy subject to read. We have to read about the massive amount of information on the complex human body and REMEMBERING them, from the molecular level to the anatomy of the body to the interactions between different system. And, we have to do all that in 2.5 to 3 years (as the final 2 years are for clinical training).

In Cambridge, there are may hardcore students who are so kiasu. And whoever told you that angmohs are not kiasu are bullshitting. The fact is that a large proportion of the angmohs are as kiasu, if not more, as the Asians. There is one person from Downing college studied like from 8am to 1am everyday. He only go out of his room during lectures, and not any other time. If a Cambridge student tells you that he didn't study much, he probably meant that he studied like 7 hours a day. And if he tells you he did study, then the chances are he is studying at least 12 hours a day.

Ok, maybe I am exaggerating, but people here study REALLY hard. Some crazy students can just recite to you the whole DNA---> RNA -----> protein process just like that. You can ask them anything from which vertebral level does the testicular artery comes off the aorta to what nerve supplies the adductor pollicis, and he can just tell you straight off his head. I hope I am one of those people, but sadly, I am nowhere near that.

You hardly bump into any students when u are walking on the street because they will most probably be studying in their room.

Engineers, stop complaining about how much math you need to do. At least math is easier than memorising.

What am i doing blogging now? I should be studying.

Hey guys, I finally tried Baileys and Vodka 2 days ago!!!

But they suck, in my opinion. When i take a sip, the alcohol just go up into my nose and it also burns my throat.... Bailey is nice without the alcohol though.

hey guys. monkeys of pm3.. =D I have an announcement to make. I was chatting with Tze Lin online and he mentioned that he is going to Redang with his flatmates. One from china and another one from italy (but he's chinese) lol. Anyways, Tze Lin asked whether PM3 wants to join or not. So, here I am. The messenger.

I haven't gotten all the details yet. But I think the info below would be sufficient for everyone to get the idea of how it is:

Date: 27th June
Duration: 3 days 2 nights
Price: RM 400 something. ( He said bout the same as Tioman trip)
Transport : Air Asia from KL to Kuala Terengganu (He said bus is too long a drive.7 hours) then ferry to Redang Island.

So I guess thats pretty much all i know. I asked Tze Lin to come visit our blog so he can answer whatever questions anyone has. =) and he also said they will handle the booking and what-not.

How many people wants to go? The more the merrier. =D Hopefully this will be another great island getaway for pm3.

In this attempt to revive the blog, I shall post my adventure to London and also the botanical garden today.

London
I went to London yesterday to see the Londoners. Unfortunately, Ban and YS are busy with their studies. So, I had to meet up with Ken and Zhen Lim (a SMKDJ senior). I must say Ken changed quite a bit, as in like he is no longer as annoying and kiam siap.

So when I got there, Ken was too lazy to pick me up from the station as he was still sleeping. So, I had to trouble my friend instead. We walked in Hyde Park, and then went to Imperial College to see YS and Wen Yao. YS new hairstyle is quite cool now, as he doesnt gel up his hair like a rambutan anymore. We stayed in Imperial for a bit before going to Ken's favourite hang out place: Chinatown. Apparently, he goes there every single day. There is a gay bar in Chinatown, and any gay bar in London will have a flag with 6 of the 7 rainbow colours on it. The food in Chinatown was quite decent and much much cheaper compared to the ones you get in Cambridge.

Then, I went to LSE library. According to Ken, there are a lot of leng luis in the library during term time. It is quite a shame that they started their Easter holidays already. After that, Ken brought me to Lilywhites, where you can get very cheap sports jersey, equipments, etc. I saw a MU jersey which costs only 20 pounds!! My brother bought it for 200 ringgit in Malaysia. I bought a tennis racquet from Lilywhites which cost only 15 pounds (original price = 70 pounds). So, it was quite a good deal. Just hope that it wont break when I use it.

Went back at 5pm.

Botanical Garden

The botanical garden in Cambridge is awesome. They have a pond with a few ducks in it, and a greenhouse which features many different habitat with different plants. One of them was tropical plants and it really smells like home (according to my friend). The garden will look even nicer when summer comes.

Touring UCD

Hi again guys. lol. This is another contribution to the revival of our blog. well, im having my holidays. soo, i went to UCD to visit our fellow pm3-ians xiao wei and bengsoon. Xiao wei brought me around UCD. I thought it was really nice. Open air and everything. nice change to the smack-in-the-middle-of-the-city Trinity. UCD has a huge campus compared to Trinity. In Trinity, the buildings are more packed together cause we don't have anywhere else to expand.Being in the city and all.

So,i actually spent the day walking around UCD with Xiao wei. We went to visit bengsoons room as well, and i must say..surprisingly clean for a guy. =D (darn.shudve took pics. lol. oh well.tbs can do that..ehe.)and in the evening, xiaowei cooked her yummy tom yam chicken and we ate with bengsoon and his friend that cooked char siew. =) Had a great time guys!

so...classes has started and as expected..my schedule is crap...and the workload i got is more crap!

and the people in my class..woah!

some of them are just plain cybergenetic robots that study so hardcore!!

there's this dude that finished his 2nd and 3rd week work in the 1st week! WTF!

and this lady who has notes dated back to 19th Jan 2009! WTF! I was still working at Kizsports at that time man and she's already started her notes! HARDCORE!!

but class isn't as mundane as I thought it would be. cuz there's this dude who is super hyper...and is always damn pumped for lessons. he goes around saying, "I'm so psyched!! good morning everyone! how ya' all doing? Isn't today's lesson going to be awesome!" at first it was a lil irritating...but i find it amusing now!

and the second part is...labs are actually damn fun! i got to work on my robotic head today! played with the mirrors and tweezers and other instruments! fooh...damn cool la!

anywayz..today was the ICC (i forgot what it stands for..probably Inter College Cup or Championship) Swimming Carnival! And since we Emmanuelians are blue... we wore blue stuff and painted our bodies and faces blue, marched around the uni campus yelling our warcries!

we also paper toweled St. John's (another college) and had a war cry fight with King's (yet another college..but they're our main rivals cuz their our neighbours). It was so AWESOME!

At the event, there was much dancing with the music while the swimmers swam...war cry battled with the other 4 colleges and cheered for our swimmers. Emmanuel got 1st place for girls and 4th for the guys!

part 3- the sunshine coast

As it was gonna be my last exciting activity for some time... i'd better blog about it before all the mundane crap of studying comes in.

I met with other CCM (Charismatic Christian Movement) members at 7.30 am on the 28th of feb (WTF!!!damn early...i had to eat breakfast on the way because i woke up at 7.00) at the Chancellor Building bus stop. To tell you the truth, i wasn't even a member of that group and i've only heard about the trip from my friend, Vivien, like yesterday at dinner. LOL! im so spontaneous la! So anywayz, i paid the membership fee + bus fee ($25 AUS)

So us 200 members were separated into groups...and i was in group Judah 7 along with Vivien and a few others whom i managed to make friends along the trip.

Our journey was like going from KL to Ipoh so it took about 2 hours++. We stopped for lunch at this place called Eumandi Market and took the opportunity to shop around a lil bit. the name is pronounced as You- Mandi...lol! Anywayz, this place was like a pasar malam la...got sell all sorts of things from craftwork, to baju's to i denu wat's la!

We left that place about 1.00 pm and arrived at the New South beach like about 2.00 ++. After applying lots of SP 60 lotion on myself (bloody hell la! yesterday at the Wet N' Wild, i got burned weii..came back with lobster shoulders!), i played Captainball with some other CCM members whom i didn't even know! It was quite fun la...i think us Wong's are pretty good at that game...my cuzin Chris was damn pro la! lol!

After that, i took a walk along the beach ( i couldn't go into the water cuz of the sunburns and because i forgot to bring change of clothes :s) with a few other friends and Vivien.

Then about 3.30 i eased myself into a beach soccer game with unknown people! had lots of fun la! It felt SOOOOOO good to kick a ball again!

Left New South beach about 5.00 pm and headed back to Brisbane. Arrived at the UQ about 7.30. I was super hungry at that time and looked forward to a great dinner only to find out that dinner was served from 5.15-6.30.... aaarghh rite! so vivien and i ended up eating maggie at my room!

oh ya...i went to church the next day! and the service was like only 45 mins!! aussie masses rawks!

So...continuing from where i left off.

ah yes..

tuesday night, we had this trivia night whereby we were split into small groups and had to answer about 5 rounds of questions. after each round, the person who had to present our groups answers had to do stuff like perform a dance, beat box or whatever shyt you could think of at the moment.

when the trivia ended, we had the choice of:
a) staying in our rooms and be a social loser
b) go for the pub crawl and get pissed drunk
c) go for the coffee crawl and chill with new faces

and took option (c)...lol!
we went to 2 different cafes, drank teas and this really awesome hot chocolate pudding thing! went back about 12.00 am

the next day, we were woken up at 6 to do our usual crap but this time the guys had to bend down and be chairs while the girls had to sit on the guys. the game was.....musical chairs! but the girls were allowed to fight and tear away at each other to get the chairs. CATFIGHT! the rest of the day went by without anything eventful so i'll just skip to the night activities. At night, we had a talent show, where 3 seniors became judges and anybody who wanted to do something could just go up and show. there were singers, dancers, people who could lick their elbows, people who could put their feet over their head while standing up, people who did strip teases....all in all a fun night. I didn't follow them for ugly bowling, where you had to cross dress or dress horribly and play bowling because i missed the bus as i was watching some movie with other people. lol!

moving on to the next day, we were woken up at 6 again but this time for a photo shoot. They took one photo in the court yard but said the sun was disturbing the picture. Then they led us in to this small cramped area below a balcony. They took a picture and then poured flour, eggs and water all over us!!! FARK MAN!! we got CAKED! At night, we had the TOGA PARTY! OMFG, its such a cool party! those who were cheap and didn't want to buy a toga sheet just used our bedsheets. so i looked like this:

we had a few beers before going to the party ( i had 1/2...hehe...;)) and headed off to the car park where the party was. There was a tent for the dance floor but us fresher guys weren't allowed into that until about 9.30 pm. However, one of the senior girls, who was high dragged me in about 9.00 to dance! obligingly I followed ( C'mon.....who wouldn't!!) So i was dancing with this chick and her friends la when all of a sudden this huge ass 2nd year with tattoos came up to me and bellowed,"WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING HERE FRESHA!" i pointed to my senior saying, "She dragged me in!!" and he was like, "FUCK OFF!!" so i just walked out!!! lol! fark...he looked like he was gonna open a can of whoop ass on me! but anywayz, i still had a great night...dancing with chicks after 9.30 pm!

today, we weren't woken up early but on the agenda was Wet N' Wild, this water theme park that resembles Sunway Lagoon! spent the whole day there! Awesome rides! and i am so dead tired now! So thats all for my O week! freakin awesome experience la! later peeps!

The Brisbane Adventorture...so far!

Hey pm3's!! how ya'll doing! as you know, i''ve just got to Brisbane about 3 days ago. Things have been great-ouch so far....i'll tell you more about it! but so far its been an incredible experience!

so i arrived in Brisbane about 12.00 am on Saturday, went to stay at my aunts place for the night. Then at 10.30, i went to check-in at my residential college. The seniors were friendly people always offering help. My dorm name was Douglas and my wing leader (the dorm leader), Waley, who is this super skinny tall and wacky dude but nice altogether, briefed me, and my other dorm mates about life at Emmanuel College. And my dorm so rocks because it has only 10 guys and 10 girls and 4 toilets..so its like 5:1 ratio whereas other wings have about 50 peeps and 4 toilets only!

Anyways i found out that there are about 100 aussie freshmen, 50++ americans and a handful of asians! they're all friendly people, but its hard to mix with the kuai lohs cuz we're of different wavelenghts??i guess. Oh and every freshman has to wear this green robin hood hat everywhere we go for the first week of orientation. lol! it looks freakin lame outside but when ur with fellow freshman, it doesn't look too bad! and each of us has a nickname given by the seniors. mine's blogspot! i have no freakin idea why....

That night, we had this event called bush dancing. my dorm mates thought that we should get high before participating in that event because bush dancing was like o.0
So we bought vodka and drank half the bottle before joining the bush dancing. It was damn fun la! got to meet lots of ppl in that event.

After that event, most of the seniors went to hit the bars, most of us 'freshers' stayed behind to play this game called matt-ball..which was like rugby plus handball. Rule of the game was to get the ball from your side to ur opponents mattress on their side and in between..anything goes! The game got really physical!! even the girls participated in it! I played a bit and sat on the sides with other aussies drinking rum n coke! lol!

When matt-ball finished, we headed to another dorm called Mickelson to chill with other people...and played some drinking games. Since we didn't have any drinks left, the punishment was to do push ups!

So i slept about 2 am..only to be woken up about 6 am thanks to the seniors. Us freshers were woken up, dragged out of bed in our PJ's to the field to do morning exercises with the company of some cool vibey music. Then we had to run around the cricket field...pausing only to do cartwheels and rolling about on the grass as ordered by the seniors. oh did i mention, the seniors had blue war paint on their bodies!

The rest of the day passed thanks to some boring lectures on safety and health. The only interesting talk was about....SEX! lol! it was damn funny! At night, we went to a bar called pig and whistle. however, i wasn't allowed to drink because i had no proof that i was above 18 cuz they didn't know how to read Malaysian driving license and IC and i didn't bring my passport. so i was allowed to the under -18 corner where i just played pool and chatted with other people! lol! still was fun!

The next morning, we were again woken up at 6.00 to do the same crap! haha! alrights, that's all for now, cuz I need to go for some freshers game! pics will be up soon! Cyaaz!

Muscles of the tongue: Genioglossus, Styloglossus, Hyoglossus, Palatoglossus
Nerve supply: All hypoglossal nerve (XII) besides palatoglossus (IX,X)
Tears produced at the lateral side of the eye, passes medially across the conjunctival sac, before going in through the puncta, then into the lacrimal sac, then into the nasolacrimal duct, before coming out of the inferior nasal meatus. So basically, tears drains into the nose.
Sore throat = laryngitis
Some kids suffer from tonsilitis. A lot of people got their tonsils removed when they are young.

Other facts:

People here actually studies before they go to lectures/ dissection/ lab. WHATS THEIR PROBLEM????? You can actually see their notes loaded with notes and underline/ highlights. Apparently we are suppose to know most of the things when we get to the dissection room. We are not there to learn, but to be tested on.
Some students can just fire all the answers like nobody's business. And the best thing is that we havent even learnt about it yet.
We finished the cranial nerve, all the structures in the head in 4 weeks. How's that even possible?
In supervision, again you are being asked questions. I thought its a place where you learn, not being tested!! Some are for the past lectures, which they assume you have known. Some are for future lectures.
Every week there will be essays for you to fill up your weekend, and not to mention revision for the previous lectures.
I am dancing for Malaysian night.

And since most of us will only be here in uk/ireland for 2 summers, this might be our only chance to really travel together while we're all still here. So let me know if you guys are interested ok? Apparently my term ends officially on the 12th of june but i could get off earlier like some of my seniors said i would. Ken suggested a 12 day trip around so yeahh let me know what u guys think of the plan ok? This will be even better than tioman seriously! heh.. Good luck with the exams!

Well, basically Vinfei came over to Ireland for a few days and me,yiyun,bengsoon and vinfei met up for dinner the night of his arrival. and he brought presents for the pm3 girls in ireland.(unlike someone =p) Me and yiyun had first picks on the presents because xiaowei isnt around. She went for a tour with her classmates to Scotland,London and one more place i forgot. ehe. She blog about it when she gets back i guess.

Holiday

Hey guys,

The holidays have come, FINALLY. I am glad that I have a month off work because university is just so hectic!!

I used to think that in uni you just need like few books to bring to lectures and then can party/chill/club/bitch/play for the rest of the day. However, it seems to be the total opposite of that. According to my friend, her supervisor told her that "vacation" is just to vacate the room, and not holiday.

Oh well, medical life is just so stressful. Now the IMU people are busy studying for their first term exams which is on the 31st of December (while everyone is in the holiday mood). That explains partly of why the blog is so quiet.

In this holiday, I actually learn to appreciate Malaysia. For those of you who are still here, be grateful, because you don't get such warm weather anywhere in UK. Moreover, I heard 1U beat any shopping complex in England. I haven't been to London before but then I can assure you that 1U beats the cacated shopping complex in Cam. I also learn that nasi lemak taste better than any fish and chips. Even the maggi mee taste better than the speghetti.

And lets not forget that Imperial people haven't post on their infamous gay university yet. And also, our class celebrity (Ken) hasn't post anything on London School of Entertainment (LSE) too.

My Irish Adventure

As you all know, since i had too much mon... i mean.. since i had a week off last week.. i took this opportunity to go to.. yep as u prolly figured out by now.. dublin!! No marks for guessing.. haha! Anw im damn lazy to type out what i did precisely and i dont wanna bore u guys to death either.. so i'll just summarise each day briefly and let the pics do the talkin instead!!

My Dublin Journal

Day 1

I Reached dublin at 3 sth if i remember correctly.. and took the bus to trinity college.. where i was suppose to meet yiyun. After she saw me and i swept her off her feet, we met up with jaclyn who showed us around trinity. Yiyun felt kiasu then.. so she took us for a free tour of rsci. I offered to take them to manchester uni but they both declined politely.. saying it was too far to walk. (and swim) Later, we had a mini pm3 reunion in eddie rockets. Gosh! we had so much fun talkin about the good ol' days.. like taylors.. making fun of ken.. and tioman.. and making fun of ken again.. and iceskating.. And did I mention making fun of ken?

Day 2

Yiyun had already introduced me to her friends, and we made our way to the Guiness factory today. Took a hell lot of pictures here, and i even got to drink about 2 pints of guiness for free! Really got to know her friends today, and had dinner with them in some traditional irish restaurant. Dinner that night cost 24 euros... which really made me go like O.O cos my dinner over here in manchester is only about 5 quid!!!

Yiyun had previously decided that we should go for a walking tour of wicklow. Its the place where they filmed ps i love you. The girls should know this... Unfortunately it was raining quite heavily as we made our way up the mountain, but good thing it stopped as soon as we got to the top. The pics dont do the real thing justice imo.. Anw we were both wet as we came back to the city which was really cold and nearly froze to death...

Day 4

Yiyun had lecture this morning and asked me to come along with her.. Since i obviously enjoy medicine so much i decided to wake up at 730 in the morning to follwer her to class.. I think the lecturer was waffling on about some enzymes and protiens etc. Anw to cut a long story short she was damn boring.. and im surprised i even remember what the lecture was about. I amaze myself sometimes.. Spent the rest of the morning shopping and wandering the streets like some homeless chap.. I cooked rendang for her friends that night.. And it was really good, beng, xiaowei, and jessie dont know what they missed! Boarded the plane back home to manchester at 8.30pm.

I love ireland laaa seriously.. its so much more cultural compared to manchester.. like everywhere i go there'll be some traditional irish song playing.. and there are even ppl dancing about in the pubs ok! Haha! Oh, sorry bout the boring style of writing.. i just thought it'd be nicer if i made it more formal.. sort of a real traveller's log. LOL. Yeah i like to syok sendiri la.. Sue me. =p

Hey everyone! well, i guess everyone guessed who was in Dublin.Joel! he's too rich and decided to fly to Dublin for the weekend. lol. I think Joel arrived around 4 and we met up in Trinity at around 5. I brought them to the Book of Kells and showed them around Trinity. No pics allowed! sorry! =D After that, we went to RCSI and Yiyun showed us around. Then after that we went to Yiyuns place to hang out abit ( thats where we camwhored on Yiyuns webcam.lol) and then met up with Beng and Xiao Wei at Eddie Rockets. And we ate burgers and fries and chatted the night away.lol. oh and apparently Joel lost weight at is very happy about it. aha!

Mei Yan Introduces IMU!

Hye everyone and especially Poh-poh who has been asking for this. IMU isn't half as pretty as Cambridge, so don't get your hopes up. But I still like IMU <3 (Even though I am super jealous of Poh-poh)

First off, tour of the building. IMU is basically built around this central space called the atrium so it's hard to get good shots of the inside. I missed out on a lot of stuff like the library, library cafe and the bookstore and stuff, so next time I'll take more pics okay.

View from outside, sun roof above the atrium, atrium, stage in the atrium. There's always some performance or activity going on in the atrium. Latest one was Breast Cancer Week and IMU Art Competition. And we're always having food fairs, God knows why.

Medical Museum and a heart I was playing with during a session in there.

Random shots: Somewhere on the 3rd floor, the ATM machine right by the entrance (like Taylor's!), cafeteria (food is awful!), auditorium where we have almost all our lectures (it looks nicer in real life haha).

And then here are the people of IMU. I missed out shots of Wen Peng and Yuern Heng and Jen so that will be next time kay. Lots of Taylor's people are in IMU so it's kinda like Taylor's again except without AC and the rest of SS15, so that sucks.

Ducks in Emmanuel College

Hello guys,

I have an announcement to make. Please don't be too excited as its not that I have girlfriend or I went clubbing or what. Its just that I am going to Nottingham games!!! No more my mom don't let!

I want to represent Cambridge in badminton but I don't think I will get any chance.

Anyway, now I will write about life here. I like Cambridge a lot. In fact, I love Cambridge. From the supervision to essays, to lectures, and to the strange clock in Corpus Christi college. The supervision is a session where 2 or 3 of students will have discussion with the supervisor in some topics. It is very very interesting as we get to explore the subject in greater detail, and to discover we are being cheated during A levels about all the proteins and enzymes. Enzymes and proteins are dynamic and they do change shape quite often. And, enzymes has the highest affinity towards transition state, not the substrate. Although enzyme active sites are small, the rest of the part of enzymes may be used to absorb kinetic energy of the randomly moving substrate, so that substrate can stay in the active site.

Its really exciting and interesting to explore the subjects. The supervisor will continually ask questions and guide us to things that he wants to teach us. We take 3 major subjects, which are biochemistry, physiology and anatomy. I just love biochemistry and physiology. Anatomy is worth learning because the supervisor is soooooooo nice. He can speak a bit of Chinese!! Can you believe that??

Now, things that we used to learn in Biology now makes sense when the supervisor or lecturers explain the reason the fact is established.

We have dissections 4 hours a week and some lab work. In the first practical, I learnt how to use a pipette. This pipette is dam cool and easy to use, unlike the one with the orange sucker in Taylors. We also used photospectrometer, and ELISA well plate reader and some other cool equipment.

Christ College

Besides academic, there are a lot of bar in Cambridge. People here are not nerds as you all perceive. They party more than you guys do k. There are BOP, pub crawl and so on. I didn't join any because my mom don't let. And because drinking is not my thing. I confess that I didn't even drink shandy before. Don't laugh k.

There is this bar named The Eagles. One day, Watson and Crick (founder of DNA) was walking towards the bar and suddenly realise the idea of DNA. Thats how the bar got famous. I am not sure whether its true or not.

In Cambridge we have formals where we have to dress formally, not forgetting the gown, to the hall to makan a 3 course meal. Food in Sidney is said to be the best in Cambridge, so I don't complain much.

Weather is getting colder. A few days ago it was raining ice. I was walking back from the lab and felt the rain was a bit too hard and cold, then I realise its ice falling off the sky.

Anyway, I will see you all around. Need to go study about how haemoglobin can bind cooperatively towards O2.

Since the blog is dead,so I am going to post some stuff up,since I am too lazy to do any studying.I went to an Irish farm trip organized by the International Student Society.here are some pictures to show you what I did on the farm.This is Hurling.an Irish game,its like hockey in air.
this muddy place is called a bulk,the soil/mud thing supposedly has some moisturizing effect and apparently the irish children use to jump in,and there were times where ppl get lost in it.haha
these are the msians who went on the trip,except for the girl in light pink she's singaporean.we had to do a malaysian song so we sang rasa sayang,though hardly anybody knew the words to it.
